The Breakthrough Medical Discovery of Our Time

This document details the breakthrough discoveries in science, medicine and dietary health that Dr. George A. Scheele has made over the past 45 years to explain the diet-related causes of metabolic disease that pervade our society and account for the overlapping epidemics of obesity, type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease. When combined these discoveries explain the rapid increase in metabolic suffering observed in the advanced world over the past 35 years as well as the growing menace of poor health now observed in the underdeveloped world due to globalization of the food industry.


Based on Dr. Scheele’s invention of 2D gel electrophoresis in 1975, which provided the first high-resolution technique to monitor all the proteins in vertebrates, mammals and humans, now estimated at 20,000, and his subsequent nutritional studies conducted on laboratory animals and humans over the past three and a half decades, the following will serve as a partial list of innovative discoveries that explain the pathogenesis of metabolic disease associated with these overlapping epidemics.


Science and medicine have known for the past 60 years that higher animals, including humans can only produce 10 to 11 of the 20 amino acids required for protein synthesis. Earlier researchers called these “non-essential” amino acids because it is not essential that they be obtained from the diet. The remaining 9 to 10 amino acids are called “essential” because, since they cannot be produced by the organism, it is essential that they be provided in the diet. In the intervening period of time other investigators have not explored the potential deficiencies that may be inherent in the dichotomy of essential and non-essential amino acids in vertebrate and human biology.


With 45 years of dedicated scientific inquiry, Dr. Scheele has uncovered a long list of experimental discoveries related to diet-related deficiencies and their associated diseases. Each of the points summarized below relate to novel discoveries as Dr. Scheele was the first to:


  • Demonstrate an unqualified deficiency in the movement of essential and positive-charged amino acids up the food chain to higher organisms, including man.


  • Show that these deficiencies lead to selective deficiencies in positive-charged proteins, a condition that Dr. Scheele refers to as “Selective Protein Deficiency Syndrome.”


  • Demonstrate the hierarchy in loss of diet-related protein expression, by up to 90-95% within 10-12 days, resulting in an imbalance in metabolic pathways.


  • Hypothesize that poor dietary health, represented by high fat and carbohydrate diets deficient in protein, lead to chronic degenerative disease associated with the metabolic syndrome as exemplified by the overlapping epidemics of obesity and metabolic disease, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoarthritis, and gallbladder, liver & kidney disease, autoimmune diseases, and Alzheimer’s Disease.


  • Show that closing the gap in the food chain by correcting for the deficiencies in positive-charged amino acids, proteins, and enzymes rebalances metabolic pathways.


  • Demonstrate that this approach prevents, treats and/or cures obesity, type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease.


  • Use the hypothesis to identify the specific positive-charged proteins that appear to play a role in appetite stimulation (hyperphagia) and chronic degenerative diseases, including Obesity, Diabetes, Lipid Disorders, Cardiovascular Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, Pancreatitis, and Liver Cancer.


  • Explain why high protein foods and protein supplements, enriched in negative-charged proteins, serve as inefficient substrates to close the food chain gap.


  • Show that essential amino acids and their metabolites act as key satiety agents to signal the appetite center of the brain (the Arcuate Nucleus or ARC) and the Hypothalamus that the organism is not only well fed but also healthy.


  • Suggest that the diseases of aging are associated more with poor dietary health than aging.
